Anger Vintageing - is that a thing?

Just a crazy day. So I needed to shop. you know how it is. i needed some vintage to fill the void in my heart. and I actually found a lot of pretty good pieces.
I love when i try on "Petite" anything, this dress above is a petite, and I laugh, since I'm 6 foot tall. hahha. nothing petite about me. this thick poly shirt dress with a great tulip shaped skirt and pockets. I almost took it home. but the navy. bleh, just navy. I don't know, maybe I'll go back and get it.
This thing was GORGEOUS. you can't tell in the photo, but it's this shimmer/sparkle material, I think it belonged to the same AWESOME woman that owned the dress below, they were of the same era, i'm thinking early 70s/late 60s, the braided belt with the silver details made me really happy. i also like the blouson sleeve.
This thing is a SHOWSTOPPER. Beaded/flowered empire waist, great drapey jersey poly. chiffon sleeves, i was dying. the neckline had this perfect gathering, this is an amazing piece.
pretty conventional Sears 70s housewife dress. kind of a stiff durable material, not very comfy. lack of details made me put it back on the shelf, but the neckline is pretty cool.

I did take this one home. The top reminds me of a 1980s aerobics leotard that Jane Fonda would wear, that sold me. i'll wear it with leggings and boots and rock the hell out of it.

If anyone wants any of these, send me an email at readydressedgo@gmail.com  I'll get em and ship em to you wholesale. I'm not trying to make any money on this stuff. I just want it to go to a home that will appreciate it for it's greatness.

Nov 30 Vanessa & Monkey-Head

yeah, my internet was down today.

and I don't mean "down" like "down with the sickness" or "oh yeah, i'm totally down!" This was down in a bad way. But finally I just ended up going to Caribou to post this. I was just about done with every crap thing i had to do today anyways, so right now I'm sitting, drinking tea and listening to terrible coffee-shop Xmas music. bleh. at least it's not regular coffee-shop music, that is WAYYYYYY WORSE.
I think I'm going to go home and run on the treadmill for about 7 hours, and just forget today happened.

Nov 28 - Vanessa & Amazing Chipfix Nail Art

I think I'm going through a "Blue Period"

Just like Picasso. The color is very appealing to me right now. Maybe it's a reflection of the icy chill in the air. Reminds me of how when you exhale you can see your breath.
Also this is the first time I've worn this AMAZING 1970s Sears catalog House Dress. It has an ENORMOUS collar, and a zip all the way up the front. Giant Patch pockets with Huge decorative red buttons that unfortunately you cannot see in this photo. Oh well. It's a paper thin poly blend. And you can just imagine some housewife scrubbing the floors in the 70s with a cigarette hanging out of her mouth while her kids just run totally ape-shit around the house. You know, kind of like my life. LOL.

Blazer - Forever 21
Vintage 1970s dress - Thrifted
Belt - Old Navy
Necklace - Express (can be borrowed from Clasp Jewelry Styling click here)
Tights - Nine West
Boots - Nine West

Also, I had some major chips in my foundation colored mani that I got for the fashion show this weekend. It's an Essie color, I can't remember what it's called. I love it though, it's opaque and exactly the color of my skin and no sparkle. The Holy Trinity. The chips were mostly in the top middle of my nails so I thought, "I'll just put a black triangle on the end" Boom. OPI opaque black, with Sally Hansen Diamond Shine clear coat on top, PROBLEM SOLVED. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED

The Runway Chronicles - Styles in the City Backstage

So here's the backstage play-by-play for the Styles in the City Runway Show that I was in yesterday. I'm so so tired right now, so excuse my lack of expressive language and possible terseness. :-) Love yous!!

Spätzle and I having breakfast. Yeah, I probably shouldn't condone standing on the coffee table. Oh well.
This is how most of my day was spent. Pre-makeup and Pre-hair, just chillin, tweeting my homies, talking with all the wonderful girls.

Pre Show Pizza Break. I laugh because what we ate that day was doughnuts, pizza and then Wendy's. So awesomely american.

The Hair Stylists performing miracles on everyone's lovely locks.

Gorgeous Rhonda from "U Gotta Have It" boutique 27330 Southfield Road  Lathrup Village, MI 48076
(248) 424-4799. She's awesome. Love her.

Me with the done hair and makeup. I feel like a cyber-fashion-alien. In a good way.

Midnight, taking out the braid. I kinda want to keep it to swing around all day.

Vintage Gold Mine! - Encore Resale Southfield

Had to go to Southfield... Total scheduling fiasco... So anyways I was driving down Southfield Rd and saw the sign for **Encore Resale** Address: 29080 Southfield Road, Southfield, MI 48076 Phone: (248) 552-1555

GET YOURSELF THERE NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!! omg. They had one rack of Vintage. But this wasn't just any old polyester dress rack... This was Christian Dior, this was Escada... And then my favorites- 1970s JCPenny Catalogue and TOTALLY AMAZING 1960s pieces. I was freaking out. Go there now. I didn't buy any of these things because I had to leave. go go go go go go go.

How sweet is this dress (above) I feel like I'm all dressed up for a 1970s prom. I want to frost and feather my hair, make-out with my boyfriend who will be wearing a ruffley pale blue tuxedo. It's so delicate and lovely. Pale pink blush. swoon.

This was obviously part of some 2 piece ensemble that was created for 1960s intergalatic travel. At first I thought it was just a REALLY short dress, like Nancy Sinatra wears in the "These boots are made for walkin" video, but no, i think it needs a matching set of cigarette pants. I love the belt-line detail. it's divine.

This is AHHHHMAZING. It was quite big on me, so i'm holding it. but it has fluttery chiffon sleeves that are blouson, and this really cool rhinestone detail along the shoulders. it's this gorgeous deep turquoise polyester. I would host a swinging 1960s dinner party with fondue in this and live in an oval shaped house.

When I found this 3 PIECE SUIT I almost passed out on the floor and died. I still may go back and get it, my heart hurts just looking at this photo. It's a 3 piece, JCPenny from the 1970s suit. Little tiny vest, amazing flared pants and the GIANT lapel jacket... in the most obnoxiously vibrant Turquoise blue. Forget it, don't look at this. i'm going to get it tomorrow. i will throw elbows.

This looked better live. it's kind of a nice thick eggshell polyester. but the armholes are a cool cut-away shape and the collar is super jeweled. I was thinking this would be best worn with one of those early 90s Madonna super high ponytails that has tons of extensions and goes down the back. I'm sure this is supposed to be full length as well. I feel bad, the photo does not do it justice. Sorry Dress.

The Runway Chronicles - MY LOOKS!!

 Last night we had fittings...
The first designer we tried was Francine Houston, and I was handed this turtleneck dress, very similar to the one above, but in purple and black. I think that it's **fallopian short** on me, but everyone is saying "Looks great. Looks great. Perfect. I like you in that." Since I'm an athlete first, model second, clothing fits me quite differently than the other models.
It's funny, because the other models... Some of them with the FIERCEST WALKS the most OVER THE TOP SELF ASSURED, but then when it came to the clothing, they were just too too tiny. One of the models, actually the one that I believe has by far the best walk and most confidence, was given this suit (below) by the ahhhhmazing Fotoula Lambros. She was swimming in it. it was GIGANTIC on her. There was talk among the stylist... "are we going to use that suit? ahh no... blah blah blah." I went up to them and asked, "Can I try it on?" they said yes, and after I shimmy-ed it over my quads (LOL) everyone beamed, and the stylist said, "That looks like it was MADE for you."  ****BOOM****

Today I have a "go-see" at *U Gotta Have It* a clothing store/designer. We'll see if they have anything for me, I'm going to gun for as many looks as possible, why not? hahah. :-)

Free Art **BLACK** Friday Clarkston

So WE DID IT!! FREE ART BLACK FRIDAY FLASH MOB JAMBOREE happened in Downtown Clarkston yesterday. How freaking cool. M and I even brought our two little out-of-towner "Free Art Friday Elves" J & T. They loved it, especially the freezing cold temps and the *in your face* snow/hail (snail?). I didn't care, my blood runs like the icy Great Lakes. I put M in a snowsuit and we went to WERQ.

Here's the Free Art Friday Crew (here's the FB page). We met up at Depot Park and then began placing our art about the City. There was a wide variety of mediums displayed... Paintings, Collage, Masks, Prints, Everything. Whomever landed some of these pieces is going to have a bangin'ly decorated home, Enjoy!
My elf, T, planting B's painting at the Clarkston Art Conservatory. And then afterward *obviously* signing up for Celtic Dance Classes.
Another of B's paintings in from of KH Home. It would go rather nicely with some of their home decor!!

So it was **Super Fun** and we'll do it all again this coming Friday. Which instead of Black Friday will be Turquoise Friday. :-)

The Runway Chronicles - Learning to Walk LOL

So I showed up on Sunday for rehearsals for "Styles in the City" (click here)

I decided to look more like myself this time. No more "anonymous model" tank-top/skinny jeans/no makeup. My hair is big, my liquid liner is thick, and my vintage is 1970s. Also I wore my DIY Pink and Gold Striped heels (click here)!!
It was a very interesting environment. What they want is uniformity, and I can understand that. So they want to teach us a uniform walk.
I find that my natural runway walk is very reminiscent of the 1990s models...

The Cindy Crawfords... The Helena Christensens... Such as a walk like this (click here for video). I get my hips moving, my sashay on. My arms swing. I feel very confident and comfortable, my whole body is in motion. Maybe it's because that was what I grew up with and that is my comfort zone.

The world has changed: The aesthetic of the runway has changed. Girls like Vanessa Axente run the runway...
It's a vast difference, you can even tell by the body-type popular at each time. Well, anyways to get back to my point, the directors of our runway show are looking for a *2012* Runway Walk, NOT a *1991* Runway Walk.
A 2012 runway walk looks like this (click here for video). It's slow. It's stiff. It's very mannequin-ish. I can kind of understand, it really does show the garment rather than the personality of the model wearing it. But it is a little difficult for me to get used to.

So we had to line up and everyone one-by-one practicing walking in this stiff, slow, slightly melancholy way. It was hard for me not to smile.

Serve Up Thanksgiving in Style - Rules for a Sane Holiday

In the 1940s Turkeys must have been smaller.

Even with 2 oven compartments, I don't think my Gibson could handle one of those giant Birds we saw at the store yesterday. But it was a simpler time, and simplicity is wonderful.

Boiling potatoes that you know are going to go in your loved ones tummy... Salt, Pepper, copious amounts of butter and a truck-load of LOVE.

If you ruin everything, no one cares. Hot and Ready is just down the street for $5.

Relax and Enjoy. Give Hugs and Kisses to Everyone and root for the Lions with all your heart and soul.

Nov 20 - Same Dress *Day to Night*

This dress is so cool. It's a very feminine cut. Fit at the top, 3/4 sleeves, a SUPER flared skirt. But in a super masculine fabric. I love it. It came with a pretty cool preppy belt, one that's a ribbon with D-rings, but I really like belts so I had to style it my way and mix it up a bit.

So for DAY... I did *popped* collar, spiky belt, leggings and the bootie. I thought the glasses went well too, kind of going for that studious "geek chic" look.

For NIGHT.... I classed it up a bit. Threw my clip-in weave in and did an elaborate updo (i should have gotten a shot of that, sorry) Added the giant bib- Mr. T Gold necklace. I did a high contrast belt, tights and heels.

AMA 2012 - Best Dressed

My fashion forecaster friend Liz, said that we were going to see a lot of lace on the red carpet for the AMAs this year, but I didn't know it was going to be THIS MUCH! I mean, almost every lady their had some lace detail, complete lace dress, lace in the face... all over the place! crazy!

Love Love Love.... Ginnifer Goodwin in Oscar de la Renta. This reminds me of something i was see at a vintage shop and INSTANTLY snap up and buy. it's so cute and mod and with her little haircut, it looks divine. oh yeah, and it has the lacy overlay.

BOOM. In complete lace we have Carrie Underwood in Abed Mahfouz. She's so gorgeous, and i LOVE this color, this is my color. I like the cheongsam-ish top of the dress. Very cool.

I am usually bored with a body-con dress. Yawn, they have been so overdone. But I love this with it's piecing and it's jeweling and the patterns that it is making on the body. This would look gorgeous and carve a beautiful silhouette on ANY BODY. I love it. Oh yeah, it's by Naeem Khan.

Last but not least... Amy Heidemann from "Karmin" in Falguni & Shane Peacock (twitter friends of mine) I love their stuff. This print is gorgeous. I love the cut. The peplum is placed perfectly. I wonder what my girls would do in this dress though, a full roll of duct tape may be needed for me. Way to Rock it Amy.
I hate to say it, but I feel like her hairstyle was a bit of a shark-jump.

I wish more of the ladies would have went for more creative pieces... Such as Amy's. So many things were a bit bland. This is the American Music Awards, Awards for people that are artists and that means people with personality and daring demeanors. Were people afraid of being "worst dressed"? whatever, we'll never know.
