Christmas concert

Sorry for being a bit MIA. But you know it's Christmas and everyone's busy running here and there so I've not managed to get the time to just sit down and write to you guys. Yesterday I was working all day and then we did some Christmas shopping with my mum. Well anyways back to Friday. It was time for a traditional Christmas concert with two big choirs, one male and one female (Akademen and Lyran). They sang in many different languages, mostly in Swedish in a cappella. They also had an orchestra in a few pieces, I felt like I would've been in New York at Christmas or something, it was so beautiful. 

Sori kun on ollut blogin puolella aika hiljaista. Nyt on kuitenkin joulu ja kiakilla on kiire juosta paikasta toiseen. En ole onnistunut ottamaan aikaa että istahtaisin alas ja kirjoittaisin teille. Eilen olin töissä koko päivän, jonka jälkeen menimme äidin kanssa hiukan jouluostoksille. Takaisin perjantaihin. Olin perinteisessä joulukonsertissa, jossa Akademen ja Lyran-kuorot lauloivat. Ohjelmaa oli ruotsiksi, suomeksi, englanniksi ja saksaksi, orkesterin säestyksellä ja a cappellana. 

It wasn't too cold outside so we stayed a bit to mingle and I saw friends I haven't seen in years. We walked to the city and sat down to continue the conversation and grab something to eat and drink at Rafaello. I had a light caesar salad with some salmon. As I had an early wake-up we didn't stay out too long, even if that was the original plan. 

Ulkona ei ollut liian kylmä joten jäimme kirkon ulkopuolelle jutustelemaan ihmisten kanssa. Törmäsin myös ystäviin joita en ole nähnyt vuosiin. Jatkoimme matkaa kävellen keskustaan jatkamaan keskustelua ja hakkaamaan hieman purtavaa ja jotain lämmikettä. Päädyimme Rafaelloon ja itse söin kevyen Caesar-salaatin lohella. Koska minulla oli aikainen herätys emme viipyneet ulkona kauaa, vaikka alkuperäinen suunnitelma olikin.

Tätä videota olen odottanut kauan. Tässä on sitä Jarea aidoimmillaan. Täysin vastakohta Timantit on Ikuisia videolle, jota kyllä ihailin todella paljon. Tässä mennään enemmän Jaren arkeen ja siihen millainen hän on ihmisenä, eikä videossa suoranaisesti ole mitään tarinaa. Tämä menee ehdottomasti Cheekin parhaimpien videoiden joukkoon minun listallani. Uusin albumi on kokonaisuutena muutenkin ollut paras tähänastisesta tuotannosta. Tällä miehellä menee lujaa tällä hetkellä. Toivottavasti tuleva vuosi on yhtä menestyksekäs!  Mitä mieltä olette?





                 

The Beauties of the Night

So Friday was the President's big Independence Day Ball but there wasn't any dancing this year (because of the different location), instead a very festive concert. The content of the concert was carefully chosen by the president and his wife, to reflect on the history of Finland. My favorite parts of the concert were listening to Stormscary's Mary sung by Maria Ylipää and the Finlandia. That is absolutely some of the greatest piece of Finnish music ever composed (by Jean Sibelius).

Perjantaina oli siis Presidentin perinteiset Linnan Juhlat, mutta tänä vuonna ei paikan vaihtumisen takia ollut tanssia vaan juhlakonsertti. Presidenttipari oli tarkoin ollut mukana valitsemassa konsertin sisältöä, jotta se parhaalla mahdollisella tavalla heijastaisivat itsenäistä suomea. Omat lempikohtani konsertista olivat Maria Ylipään esittämä Myrskyluodon Maija ja tietenkin Finlandia-hymni. Se on ehdottomasti yksi parhaiten sävellettyä suomalaista musiikkia ikinä, eikö totta?

Well on tho the dresses then. There were some gorgeous dresses and some less wonderful ones. The variation was greater this year as shorter dresses were allowed too and men were not supposed to wear a white tie. So from my point of view the party seemed less formal. Here are my favorites. What do you guys think?

Siirrytäänpä sitten itse asiaan eli pukuihin. Joukosta löytyi muutama upea ilmestys, ja epäonnistumisiakin oli havaittavissa. Vaihtelevuutta oli, sillä myös lyhyet mekot oli sallittu, ja miehiltä ei vaadittu frakkia. Joten juhla vaikutti siis vähemmän viralliselta. Tässä suosikkejani. Mitä pidäte? Oliko omia suosikkeja?

 

The most gorgeous couple and the most beautiful dress, chef and restaurant owner Tomi Björck and his lovely wife Minka and their first time at the party. She's a stunner and looks like straight from the red carpet in Hollywood. The dress enhances her cute baby bump as they are expecting another child. The dress is from Australia where they've been spending time and from where they came back to Finland to join the festivities and travel back there after. 

Illan ehdottomasti näyttävin pari ja kaunein puku minun mielestäni, keittiömestari ja ravintoloitsija Tomi Björck ja hänen Minka-vaimonsa. Hän on kertakaikkiaan upea ja on aivan kuin suoraan Hollywoodin punaiselta matolta. Puku korostaa somaa vauvamasua, pari odottaa siis toista pienokaista. Puku on Australiasta josta he saapuivat juhliin ja palaavat sinne taas juhlien jälkeen.

Saturday Playlist

It's almost December and this weekend is the most busy weekend for Christmas parties. That inspired me to share some of the music on my playlist today. 

Joulukuu lähestyy ja tämä viikonloppu onkin pikkujoulujen kannalta vuoden kiireisin. Se inspiroi minua jakamaan hieman musiikkia soittolistallani tänään. 

The golden age of pop bands

I was surfing through the different tv channels and found a movie on about S Club. It instantly reminded me of the golden age of pop bands, the 90s when I was growing up. Who could forget about Spice Girl's major energy-filled first single Wannabe or a school disco slow dance favorite such as As Long As You Love Me. That was the time when you had no responsibilities and no idea about what life is gonna bring. Sometimes I wish I still was a kid cause those were much more simple times. Technology was used mostly for work and kids didn't have the need for cellphones and laptops and tablets etc. Nowadays it's sad how dependent we are on technology. Some kids are so attached that they don't see a life without a phone, a laptop and a tv. 

I remember reading an article about an American girl who was thinking exactly like this. She said if I'm not doing something on my phone I'm watching tv or I'm on my computer. If I'm not on my computer I might as well go to bed. Her life was all about technology and that also controlled their circle of friends. Anyways to not get completely off topic here are a few 90s favorites. Still remember these? Which one do you like the most or you have another favorite? Comment!

Surffailin tv-kanavia ja törmäsin S Clubista kertovaan leffaan. Minulla tuli heti mieleen pop bändien kultainen 90-luku, aika jona kasvoin. Kuka voisi unohtaa Spaissareiden Wannabe-hittiä tai koulun diskojen slovari-kingiä, Backareiden As Long As You Love Me-biisiä. Se oli aikaa jolloin ei ollut vastuuta eikä vielä hajuakaan siitä mitä elämä tuo tullessaan. Joskus toivon että olisin vielä lapsi sillä ne olivat yksinkertaisempia aikoja. Teknologiaa käytettiin pääasiassa työntekoon ja lapset eivät tarvinneet kännyköitä, läppäreitä tai tabeja. Nykyään on surullista kuinka riippuvaisia olemme tekniikasta. Jotkut lapset ovat niin kiintyneitä että he eivät näe elämää ilman näitä laitteita.

Muistan lukeneeni artikkelia amerikkalaisesta tytöstä joka ajatteli juuri näin. Hän sanoi että jos ei räplää puhelintaan hän katsoo TVtä tai on tietokoneella. Jos en ole tietokoneella voin yhtä hyvin mennä nukkumaan. Hänen elämänsä keskipiste oli teknologia ja se myös vaikutti siihen keitä hänen kaveripiiriinsä kuului. Jotta ei ajauduttaisi ihan sivuraiteille tässä muutama 90-luvun suosikki. Vieläkö muistat nämä? Mistä pidät eniten vai onko muita suosikkeja? Kommentoi!

The big secret is out by Cheek

Well, I can't say I'm surprised when I today saw the news about rapper Cheek's big gig at the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki next summer! Well that's what he is singing in his hit single Kuka Muu Muka (who else then). "I'm thinking of rocking out the stadium next year". For sure. The ticket sale starts on Monday at 9am.

Voin kyllä sanoa että en ollut yllättynyt kun kuulin tänään Cheekin ensi kesän Stadion-keikasta! Sitähän hän hittisinglellä Kuka Muu Muka jo vähän lupailee. "Mä kelasin rokkaa ens vuonna stadionin". Todella. Lipunmyynti alkaa maanantaina klo 9.

This week has been so stressful and busy. Thankfully tomorrow is Friday and the weekend and I'll hopefully get some more school stuff done and work a bit also, see the family and of course I miss our dog so much too. It's been so busy I haven't even talked with my mother for two whole days, and we talk on the phone sometimes several times a day, every day. I'm very close with her and I can tell her anything and even if we're both up to our chores etc on our ends we can still talk on the phone for quite long bits. When stressed or busy with something music really helps me to focus. Even at work I can have the stereos as loud as ever (when alone), but if people mumble and talk on the phone around me it makes it harder for me to focus, even if I am good in stressful situations when really needed to. Music makes me work even faster, despite the fact that I tend to hum or sing along, which some co-workers have noticed. Here are again a few songs on my playlist today. Almost the weekend. Have a nice Thursday!

Tämä viikko on ollut todella stressaava ja kiireinen. Onneksi huomenna on perjantai ja viikonloppu, ja toivottavasti saan lisää koulujuttuja aikaiseksi, ja ehkä vähän töitä myös. Tarkoitus olisi mennä käymään nyt hieman paremmalla ajalla kotona perhettä moikkaamaan, ja onhan koiraakin jo tajuton ikävä. On ollut niin kiirettä että en ole edes puhunut äitini kanssa puhelimessa kahteen kokonaiseen päivään! Puhumme puhelimessa joka päivä, joskus useita kertoja päivässä. Olemme erittäin läheisiä ja voin kertoa hänelle aivan kaiken, ja vaikka molemmat ovat tahoillaan kiireisiä saatamme jutella puhelimessa vähän pidemmänkin tovin. Kun olen stressaantunut tai kiireinen musiikki todella auttaa minua keskittymään. Jopa töissä voin paukuttaa stereoita täysillä, (kun muita ei ole paikalla) mutta ihmisten mumina ja puhelimessa puhuminen häiritsee, vaikka tarvittaessa toimin hyvin stressitilanteissa. Musiikki saa minut jopa tekemään töitä nopeammalla tahdilla, vaikka yleensä hyräilen tai laulan mukana, josta olen muutamalta työkaveriltakin kuullut. Joten tässä taas päivän musalistaa. Melkein viikonloppu. Hauskaa torstaita!

Cheek - concert and after party

I had been waiting for Saturday for a really long time. I had bought the tickets in the spring while I was still in Nice and the day had finally arrived, the big Helsinki ice hall concert by Cheek. The concert on Saturday started almost half an hour late but the DJ was making everyone feel good while waiting so we had no worries. And then finally it was time to start the show...

The video clip starts rolling, a helicopter lands and out comes Jare "Cheek" Tiihonen looking as swag as ever in that black leather jacket and those black sunglasses, not to forget his white sneakers, and stepping into the sports car. He grabs his LV portfolio with his mike and meets up with his crew and they start approaching the stage. He asks, if there's a good mood in the house since he can't hear anything, and the next thing you know he's on stage and the crowd goes wild. He opens up the show with my favorite Cheek song so far, Timantit On Ikuisia (Diamonds Are Forever). The white curtain falls down and reveals the rest of the band. After the crowd quiets down for a while he yells what's up Helsinki! And the crowd responds. This is an evening including all the most important bits of his career. He then continues with his first single he released after getting a record deal with Sony Music, Raplaulajan Vapaapäivä (The day off of a rap artist), which was one of the most played songs in Finland during the summer of 2004. That was almost 10 years ago, and today Cheek is the most well-known artist in the country.

Olin odottanut lauantaita todella kauan. Olin ostanut liput jo keväällä ollessani Nizzassa ja viimein oli koittanut se päivä, Cheekin jäähallikeikka Helsingissä. Lauantain keikka alkoi lähes puoli tuntia myöhässä, mutta DJ piti kaikkien mielen korkealla joten odottelu ei haitannut. Ja sitten oli viimeinkin aika aloittaa show...

Videoklippi lähtee pyörimään ja helikopteri laskeutuu maahan, sieltä ulos astuu Jare "Cheek" Tiihonen tyylikkäämpänä kuin koskaan mustine nahkatakkeineen ja aurinkolaseineen, unohtamatta valkoisia tennareita, ja astuu urheiluautoon. Hän nappaa LV salkkunsa jossa mikki on, ja tapaa jenginsä ja porukka lähtee astelemaan kohti lavaa. Cheek kysyy: "Mitä luulette, onks siel tunnelmaa? Ei kuulu mitään!" ja eipä aikaakaan kun hän on jo lavalla ja yleisö villiintyy. Timantit On Ikuisia pamahtaa soimaan, joka on tällä hetkellä minun lempi Cheek-biisini. Valkoinen verho tipahtaa alas ja paljastaa muun bändin. Kun yleisö on hetken hiljentynyt hän huutaa "Helsinki mikä tunnelma tänään?" Ja yleisö vastaa. Tämä ilta on Cheekin uran kannalta se kaikkein tärkein, koko ura yhdessä illassa. Show jatkuu biisillä Raplaulajan Vapaapäivä, joka on hänen ensimmäinen sinkkunsa joka on julkaistu Sony Musicin kanssa tehdyn levytyssopimuksen jälkeen. Raplaulajan Vapaapäivä oli yksi kesän 2004 soitetuimpia biisejä Suomessa. Siitä on lähes 10 vuotta aikaa, ja tänä päivänä Cheek nähdään tämän hetken tunnetuimpana artistina Suomessa.

The show goes through the best parts of his career with massive pyrotechnics, making sure no one gets left out cold. While moving on with the show he tells his story about his music career, what happened next, how he felt when that happened, not forgetting to thank the people who have made this possible for him today. And of course, adding some of his humour in between. Very few Finnish artists can get the crowd going so wild that they're gonna keep on singing for an entire two-hour long show, only this man can do it. The show includes a lot of featuring artists including Sami Saari, Jari Sillanpää, Kaija Koo and of course the Rähinä Records rapper friends of his, not to forget his performance of Anna Mä Meen with Jonne Aaron or the very touching performance of Syypää Sun Hymyyn (Reason to Your Smile) with the extremely talented Yasmine Yamajako. From his newer production (which I'm very fond of already), the record released a day before the concert, the dashing Diandra comes on stage to perform their new song together, and the hall is on fire! :D Another favorite of mine is the song after which the new album is named, Kuka Muu Muka (Who Else Then). As the final track was heard Timantit On Ikuisia once again, this time with a keyboard and diamond glitter was raining all over. It was the perfect ending for the perfect concert.

Showssa käydään läpi Cheekin uran parhaita paloja, ja massiivinen pyrotekniikka takaa sen, että ketään ei jätetä kylmäksi. Mennessään showssa eteenpäin hän kertoo tarinaa musiikkiurastaan, mitä tapahtui seuraavaksi, miltä hänestä tuntui silloin, unohtamatta kiittää kaikkia niitä ihmisiä jotka ovat mahdollistaneet hänelle tämän illan. Ja tietenkin sitä huumoria mahtuu myös väliin. Harvan suomalaisen artistin keikoilla on yleisö niin fiiliksillä mukana laulamassa kokonaiset kaksi tuntia putkeen, mutta tämä herra vain pystyy siihen. Showssa oli mukana paljon vierailevia artisteja mukaan lukien Sami Saari, Jari Sillanpää, Kaija Koo ja tietenkin Rähinä Recordsin pojat, unohtamatta esityksiä kuten Anna Mä Meen Jonne Aaronin kanssa, tai koskettavaa Syypää Sun Hymyyn erittäin lahjakkaan Yasmine Yamajakon kanssa. Illan aikana saatiin kuulla myös uutta tuotantoa päivää ennen ilmestyneeltä albumilta, kun hurmaava Diandra saapuu lavalle esittämään yhdessä Cheekin kanssa uuden biisin nimeltä Fiiliksissä, ja halli on tulessa! :D Toinen uusi suosikkini on kappale jonka mukaan levy on nimetty, Kuka Muu Muka. Shown loppuun kuultiin vielä Timantit On Ikuisia uudestaan, kosketinsoittimien säestämänä ja timanttihilettä sateli. Täydellinen loppu täydelliselle keikalle.

All and all I can say that this was a world class show and the positive feedback that the artist has gotten in the media is amazing. The next question is how can you do better than this within Finland? The newly released album has already sold double platinum. Guess we have to wait and find out. I wanna thank Jare and everyone who made this fantastic show possible. You are on fire, keep up the good work!

Kaiken kaikkiaan voin sanoa että tämä oli maailmanluokan show ja se positiivinen palaute jota artisti on mediassa saanut on huima. Seuraava kysymys on kai miten tästä voi enää parantaa Suomen rajojen sisällä? Levykin on jo viikonlopun aikana myynyt tuplaplatinaa, ei voi muuta sanoa kuin että mies on uransa huipulla, jatka samaan malliin! Kiitos Jarelle ja kaikille jotka mahdollistitte tämän fantastisen shown. 

Then it was time to continue the night at the official after party. Everyone was there, more artists and Finnish celebrities, friends and other people to celebrate this successful night. I also ran into people I know from way back. People were enjoying themselves, dancing to the music the DJ was playing and the drinks were flowing (Moët for me). We also had a few artists performing like Jutty Ranx and Mikael Gabriel. And before going home we happened to run into the artist himself, right before he drove off in his BMW, making the night extra special. Thanks again!

Sitten olikin aika lähteä virallisille jatkoille. Kaikki olivat siellä, lisää artisteja ja suomalaisia julkimoita, ystäviä ja muita ihmisiä juhlistamassa tätä menestyksekästä iltaa. Törmäsin myös tuttuihin. Ihmiset nauttivat olostaan, tanssivat DJn soittaman musiikin tahtiin, ja juomaa kului (minulla Moëta). Luvassa oli myös muutama yllätysvieras, kuten Jutty Ranx ja Mikael Gabriel. Ennen kotiinlähtöä törmäsimme vielä artistiin itse, ennen kuin hän hurisutti pois BMWllään, ja sehän tietysti kruunasi illan. Kiitos vielä kerran!

Monday Playlist

New day, new week. On Monday I headed to the gym to test out my new gym program my trainer made for me. I always have to have music when working out, here are some favourites from my gym playlist. Do you work out better with or without music?

Eli maanantaina oli nokka kohti salia testaamaan trainerin mulle tekemää uutta ohjelmaa. Aikamoinen treeni olikin. Mulla on pakko soida musaa aina kun treenaan. Tässä muutamia salilistan suosikkeja. Tykkäättekö te treenata ilman musaa vai musan kanssa, vaikuttaako musa treenituloksiin?

Diamonds are forever

It's Friday and the release day of Cheek's brand new single Timantit on ikuisia (Diamonds are forever). I must say the song is probably my favorite  so far. The video has a James Bond theme into it and was inspired by his mum.

The release day couldn't be better cause it's also my parents' 27th wedding anniversary, but not quite the diamond anniversary yet. The next big thing is 30 years, the pearl anniversary.

I love Mondays

Monday, the start of the new week. Somehow people still feel tired after the weekend. I always look forward to my BodyPump class, I might feel tired before but after the class I feel so energetic I could run a marathon or something :D

Rihanna in Helsinki

I had gotten the tickets last year and last Sunday was finally the time for the Rihanna concert at Hartwall Areena in Helsinki. Despite hearing gossip about miss R being a diva on her tour and late a massive 3 hours to some gigs, she kept the Finnish audience waiting only for 15 minutes from the scheduled time. Maybe she wanted to end her Diamonds tour in Europe with style, who knows. ;)

The gig started out with less known songs and the set was culminating towards the end. My all time favourite  Rihanna song, and one of my favourite songs ever I always gotta dance to, We Found Love really hit the jackpot. When the song started everyone was screaming and jumping up and down, even yours truly. From then on it was just a hit after another from S&M to Only Girl (In the World) and finishing with her hit and the name of the tour, Diamonds.

The show did not have major props on stage or fancy outfits, it was based on true Rihanna, her unique voice. What did you guys think about the show?
